DO I NEED A REAL ESTATE LICENSE TO BECOME A BUSINESS BROKER?

Maybe. It depends on your state.

Here’s the good news: you do not necessarily need to already be a licensed real estate agent to become a Business Matchmaker.

Business brokerage licensing requirements vary by state and can also depend on the type of transaction. Some states require a real estate license to broker business sales, while others do not.

Already a real estate agent?

You may already have one of the biggest pieces in place.

Business brokerage gives you another way to use the skills you already have—prospecting, marketing, negotiating, managing transactions and building relationships—except instead of helping someone buy or sell a house, you’re helping them buy or sell a business.

Not licensed?

Don’t count yourself out.

Depending on your state, you may be able to enter business brokerage without obtaining a real estate license. If licensing is required where you live, you’ll know the path before getting started.
